The Party by Andy Shauf

Andy Shauf is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Saskatchewan. He started his musical career with the band Foxwarren in 2011 but quickly moved to writing and recording by his own name in 2012. His music can be classified as Indie Pop, but there are hints of jazz and folk melded into the mix.

He released his album The Party in 2016. This album witnessed him picking up steam as an artist and coming into his own as a songwriter. The Bearer of Bad News, released in 2012, was good, but with the release of the concept album The Party, Andy Shauf reached a larger audience. The album is flawless and flows together like a seamless organic being. My favorite track is and has always been the opening song The Magician, but Alexander All Alone, the second to last song is a close second. The Magician music video featuring amanita muscaria mushrooms is a personal favorite of mine.

The aspect of Andy Shauf’s music that makes him really pop is his clarinet playing and more classical composition arrangements. His releases come from the ANTI label, and INDIE is the perfect description for who Andy Shauf is. This album is one of my favorite’s of all time, and at just 37 minutes, it’s amazing to throw on whenever you need a moment of internal reflection.

Peace,

Will
