Max Heart by Kalbells
Max Heart by the Band Kalbells is one of my favorite albums of all time. The record is new-age, whimsical, dreamy, and fun. Kalbells entered my radar screen in 2019. I have been a die-hard fan of the Brooklyn-based art pop rock band Rubble Bucket since 2011. When I first saw the band live in 2012 I wasn't even 21 yet, but I knew how to party like a Rock Star and when Annakalmia made motions that suggested she had been doing cocaine before the show while singing the lines "If you called yourself a rock star, ra-di-ra-da-da-da-da. Bathroom vampires, blowing all the fun. Predisposed for centuries, to kill for number one", a 20 year old Will was very amused.
Apparently, Annakalmia and her husband Alex weren't all love behind closed doors, and my beloved rock band broke up. In the aftermath, when searching for these sonic titans who had smitten me with their saxophone and trumpet playing, I found Kalbells & Toth. The two’s new solo projects. I was immediately drawn in by the synth sounds of Kalbell's 2017 release, Ten Flowers. I was 2 years late to the party (actually released a year before the (temporary) last Rubblebucket release) but felt in good company listening to the ladies. The 2021 release of Max Heart captivated me even more so, and the opening and closing track frequently make my yoga playlists. Luckily Rubblebucket has since reunited and has an amazing new album Earth Worship. They still put on one hell of a show and are sober now! Enjoy
